  1. Very fine list although I have to admit I haven't seen Laurence of Arabia yet. We agree with our choices for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, but my personal pick for Best Actress is Lee Remick, I find her astonishingly raw and heartbreaking. Geraldine Page is terrific (the year itself is amazing for leading actress) but of the actual nominees she might be my least favorite (but they're all amazing). What did you think of Shirley Knight in Sweet Bird of Youth? I like her performance quite a bit. Also, although I have to rewatch The Miracle Worker, I remember thinking that Duke was supporting - she had a very prominent role but she was always seen from Bancroft's perspective. She really is on the border though.

    1. Thank you for commenting!

Well Remick is easily my least favorite out of the nominees, I feel her part could be played by another great actress the same way (or even better), but I didn't feel the same way about the other nominees.

My top 5 Best Actress is extremely strong, I could switch my winner any day (mostly because The L-Shaped Room and Leslie Caron's performance grow on me everyday).

I don't think too much of anyone else besides Page in Sweet Bird of Youth, the supporting cast is fine enough, but not very interesting in general.

I see The Miracle Worker as a depiction of the relationship between Sullivan and Helen Keller, so I can put none of the actresses in the supporting category.

    2. Actually I sort of agree with you about Davis, Bancroft, Page and Hepburn being perfect for their role and that no one else could have played the role while Remick's role could have been played well by other actresses, but still her performance had a greater effect on me. It's true that the other actresses were so fitting for their roles that it's impossible to think of someone else, but the other four roles are also much more theatrical while Lee Remick's Kirsten could be a person you meet everyday. She feels real and I think she's devastating.

I've yet to see Caron by the way, sounds like a performance I'd like a lot.

  2. I look forward to covering this year some day. Definitely an amazing lineup, and I find that a lot of different folks prefer different ladies for their winners.
